CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Van Heek Textiles wishes to pursue its business activities in a sustainable and responsible manner. Working conditions, environmental awareness as well as continuity, profit/margin/result and employment form an integral part of our corporate policy.

Based on the 3Ps (People, Planet and Profit), this involves the following:

“PEOPLE”

We are, and will remain, responsible for the safety, health and welfare of our valued employees.

We pursue an active personnel and environmental policy: on the one hand based on the common interest of good cooperation, and, on the other, on the requirements of the Working Conditions Act (Arbowet), Environmental Management Act and the Pollution of Surfaces Waters Act (WVOW).

“PLANET”

  • We pursue the applicable environmental laws and regulations, enabling us at an early stage to anticipate new developments.

  • We constantly strive to protect the environment as much as possible with strong emphasis on the following elements:

  • reduction of water, air and soil pollution, and noise emissions

  • recycling of waste material and production waste

  • prevention, control and reduction of waste materials

  • the choice of raw materials, resources and chemicals

  • sustainability of our processes and the purchase of our machinery

  • energy, water and raw material saving processes

  • anticipating social technological developments

  • involving, training and educating our employees in terms of environmental care

  • integrated approach to environmental issues

  • improving understanding between the government and third parties in terms of the environment

  • we do not use volatile organic compound materials during our production process

“PROFIT”

Our textile tradition stretches back over 150 years. Our innovative ideas have given us a leading position in our industry. Because we wish to continue developing innovative products at the highest level, we motivate our employees to participate in training courses. To the best of our ability, we take the most responsible technical and economic measures and make provisions to ensure the maximum possible healthy result. We also strive towards a balance between our business activities, a better environment and the welfare of our employees.

Van Heek Textiles endorses the industry guidelines of the environmental treaty. The implementation of this policy challenges us to improve the objectives of this treaty. In reference to this policy and its objectives, we have regular contact with the local government. If desired, we also discuss this with our clients, neighbours, adjacent companies and suppliers.

VAN HEEK TEXTILES AND THE ENVIRONMENT

One of the specific characteristics of our material is environmental friendliness. All components can be recycled and do not contain dyeing ingredients or pigments included in the MAKIIIA1 or MAKIIIA2 list.

Raw fabric

Van Heek Textiles has its own weaving mill and works with natural yarns such as cotton, rayon, cellulose and flax.

Dyes

For the dyeing and coating process, as well as other finishing processes, we select the most environmentally-friendly ingredients. The lamination paper is acid-free and made of wood that is produced in accordance with FSC standards, the adhesive used is a polyvinyl acetate and acid free. The above is in contrast to Nitro and PVS, which have to be disposed of separately and are not biodegradable.

The use of chemicals (e.g. dye and glue):

Our chemical suppliers must register all hazardous substances imported from outside the EU, or produced in quantities exceeding one tonne per year, in accordance with the REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) Regulation. The aim of this European Regulation is to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks of chemicals.

Emissions to soil, air, noise and waste water:

  • Van Heek Textiles has laid impermeable floors at various product locations.

  • In terms of sound, various outlets and fans have been fitted with dampers.

  • PH, temperature and flow (amount of m³ waste water) are constantly measured and the amount of sludge is visually monitored.

  • Waste products (particularly products or substances that are considered harmful)

  • Waste products must be collected and processed by special waste disposal companies. These companies have special permits to transport, collect and process waste products in order to prevent harmful substances from being returned to the market.

Van Heek Textiles attaches great importance to protecting both human and environmental health through handling harmful substances carefully and strictly complies with the rules as laid down in the environmental legislation of both national and local government and the EU.

CO2 EMISSIONS

Compared to the assessment year 1990 (Kyoto Protocol), we have realised a savings of 37% in the processing of our industrial waste up to and including 2014. That is 117 tonnes of CO2 per year and is equal to the emission of 604,500 vehicle kilometres. Naturally, we will continue to optimise waste separation, collection and processing techniques to further minimise CO2 emissions.
