TerugGirl's Day at Van Heek Textiles
Yesterday, 10 young ladies from the Twents Carmel College in Losser exchanged their school desks for a visit to the Van Heek Textiles factory.
The visit was organized in the scope of Girls' Day, an initiative of VHTO Expertise Centre for Gender Diversity in STEM and IT, aiming to introduce young girls aged between 10 and 15 to, and enthusing them for, STEM and IT professions.
They were given a glimpse into the production of textiles, were introduced to a number of employees who mainly work in technology and were given the opportunity to carry out a few tests on textiles themselves.
Unfortunately, there are still too few women in the Netherlands choosing STEM and IT professions, but who knows, we might just have succeeded in convincing a few young women from a new generation. And if not, it was a successful day full of new experiences for us and these 10 students.
